Head of Social Media & Content

 

Runyon is incubating a new venture in the book discovery space, and is looking for a Head of Social Media & Content to help on the pre-launch and scale of the effort.

We are building a new way to discover and purchase books through all of the lively and enriching conversations they inspire. This is a rare opportunity to be a major force in introducing the voice and content strategy for an early stage brand entering the market. Our small founding team, led by the co-founder and former President of Artsy, includes Artsy’s longtime head of product and design, a former publisher, and experienced engineers and data scientists. The Manager of Content and Social Media will collaborate with all stakeholders in the business including Product, Customer Success, Community and Marketing. Most of all, you will amplify the voice of a team that is passionate about our driving purpose: connecting people through books. Full-time position available.


About the Role

We are developing hybrid human-AI technology that finds and serves up personalized book recommendations and book talk from across social media, podcasts, and the Web — all in one app. You'll be responsible for daily curation of the most compelling and fresh conversations about books in both the app and our social media channels. In addition, you'll help build out our original content strategy and facilitate community-building across all channels.

Responsibilities

  • Research and curate content from social media, podcasts and other sources in order to produce daily highlights of short-form book content in the app.

  • Own and operate our social media platforms including scheduling content, community management, and optimizing posts for engagement.

  • Commission original content and manage editorial workflow.

  • Partner with Customer Success and Marketing to ensure that user and customer touch-points are consistent and aligned with brand narrative and tone.

  • Report on social media performance on a weekly and monthly basis to identify insights and establish KPIs.


About the Candidate

The ideal candidate is, first and foremost, passionate and knowledgeable about books and has broad cultural interests. An avid social media user who is fluent in cultural trends and the ideas cycle, you are able to act on emerging conversations and cultural moments on behalf of the brand. You are also able to curate and produce content with agility across a range of subject matters.

You have come with experience owning and operating social media for a brand or organization in the culture space, and brings a deep understanding of platform tools, analytics, content management and strategy. You take a creative and entrepreneurial approach to how we will turn online discussion of books into opportunities for brand engagement and community growth. The candidate thrives in a startup environment and has experience working with fast-paced media or consumer brands.

Qualifications

  • 4-7 years work experience; including direct experience owning and operating high-growth social media accounts, ideally in the culture or publishing space.

  • Experience with social media campaigns, community management, and editorial project management.

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of social media platforms.

  • Proficiency with e-mail service providers as well as social and content management tools such as Tweetdeck, Sprout, Hootsuite, Canva, etc.

  • Creative and collaborative work ethic.

  • Experience working with book sales and/or passion for book culture.
