We believe AI is best explored and applied in human-centered contexts, to help people do what they’re already doing, but better.

Since 2016, we’ve partnered with the generative AI company Elemental Cognition to bring new experiences to life that support human endeavor where trust, transparency, and reliability matter.

Our Partnership
with EC

To provide our client partners with the most reliable generative AI for their core business functions and growth-focused user experiences, Runyon partners with NY-based Elemental Cognition (EC), the AI company founded by the creator of IBM Watson, Dr. David Ferrucci.

We value Runyon’s ability to identify user needs that can be helped by EC’s technology. As such, we gain exposure to emerging business applications, specifically those that can reduce complexity at scale with AI reasoning and explicability, and in verticals that require the highest compliance and regulatory standards.”

– Dr. David Ferrucci, EC founder and CEO

Our partnership with EC began in 2016 with a collaboration centered on the value proposition and positioning for the company’s early AI technology, which evolved into a deeper design and growth strategy exploration. Today, based on that work, we share a strategic service alliance that benefits all involved, from customers to client partners, by using EC’s AI to improve speed, cost, and effectiveness at scale. Within this partnership, Runyon leverages its human-centered methodology to surface stakeholder needs and business opportunities that can directly benefit from EC’s AI technology.

Runyon + EC in Action

Reserv

Reserv

In 2022, Runyon and EC collaborated on Reserv, a groundbreaking new digital claims processing system for property and casualty insurance. Incubated by Runyon and its VC partners, this tech-enabled third-party administrator (TPA) uses EC’s platform to optimize claims processing via complex data ingestion and automated coverage decisioning. The result is a TPA platform that stands to empower a new generation of adjusters and claims leaders through hybrid generative AI capabilities.

It is industries such as insurance that require the highest compliance and regulatory standards and that benefit from the differentiated accuracy and reliability of EC’s AI.

Behavior & Business Conversation

As the creator of IBM's Watson and now CEO of Elemental Cognition, Dr. David Ferrucci is a foremost expert in AI. In this timely conversation, moderator Steven Bertoni from Forbes magazine speaks with Dr. Ferrucci about the practical business implications of generative AI. The pre-recorded session was attended by esteemed business leaders from the industries of media, financial services, and insurance, among others, and includes audience questions on topics of Large Language Models and trending AI technology, regulatory hurdles, industry trepidation, and AI's true potential for disruption.

EC’s Hybrid
Generative AI

EC’s generative AI reliably delivers correct solutions to organizations’ hardest problems. By applying Large Language Models (LLMs) in combination with structured knowledge and logical reasoning, EC’s AI improves the accuracy of LLMs and ensures evidence-based results. This means producing the same answer to the same prompt each time because the model is trained for specificity and the ability to show how the answer was produced, ie, explainable AI. This unique degree of accuracy and transparency provides client partners with new ways to accelerate and improve critical decision-making for complex, high-value problems — from multivariate travel logistics to insurance claims processing.

EC’s hybrid generative AI platform comprises two complementary capabilities for optimizing critical business activities: Research and Problem Solving.

Cora

Supports research and discovery by conducting deep analysis of documents and data to find and structure precise, specific, and qualified evidence. Powerful internal query language finds and links relevant knowledge and evidence and uses generative AI to summarize content with structure and fluency.

Cogent

Empowers customers and employees to self-serve when they would otherwise need to consult highly trained experts. The AI captures a precise understanding of your business in order to reason correctly and optimally and engage dynamically in natural language while meeting pricing and structural constraints of a business.
